Business Development Manager – Imaging & Assemblies (f/m/d)

The Business Development Manager – Imaging & Assemblies is a proactive and results-driven professional responsible for identifying, developing, and driving new strategic business opportunities. The role focuses on enabling strategic growth by leveraging deep expertise in key applications and manufacturing capabilities to engage existing accounts and new customers throughout EMEA.

This individual builds strong relationships, analyzes market needs, and benchmarks competitive positioning while supporting early-stage product development from initial customer engagement. The role also involves participation in industry associations and events to expand networks and identify partnership opportunities aligned with business goals. Working closely with field sales managers, the Business Development Manager – Imaging & Assemblies focuses on market intelligence, application strategy, and business development rather than day-to-day territory management. Success requires combining technical expertise and commercial insight to match manufacturing capabilities with target markets, uncover opportunities, engage clients, and support the technical aspects of the sales process.

Essential Functions:

  • Drive strategic market development in the EMEA imaging market by identifying high-growth application areas, emerging technologies, and new business opportunities
  • Build and maintain relationships with key customers and industry stakeholders to uncover and develop strategic growth areas and strengthen market presence
  • Manage strategic customer projects from opportunity assessment through feasibility, prototype qualification, and early production ramp-up
  • Conduct market, competitor, and industry analysis to inform business strategy and support data-driven decision-making
  • Act as the technical and commercial interface between customers, sales teams, and internal stakeholders by delivering technical presentations, and supporting sales enablement


Qualifications:

Your profile:

  • Advanced degree (MSc or PhD) in optics, photonics, physics, engineering or similar scientific degree
  • Several years of experience in business development, technical sales, or application engineering within the optics, photonics, imaging, or related high-tech industry
  • Strong understanding of optical components, imaging systems, or precision optical assemblies and their applications in industrial markets
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, develop, and close strategic business opportunities with customers
  • Proven experience working with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product management, and sales
  • Ability to work and collaborate in a matrix organization and international environment
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and commercial audiences
  • Fluency in English and German; additional European languages are considered an advantage
  • Willingness to travel within EMEA (occasionally internationally) to support customers, attend industry events, and develop new business opportunities
