Quality Technician (f/m/d) - Optical Components
Are you technically minded, analytical, and interested in precision optics? Do you enjoy working with inspection equipment, analysing measurement data, and improving quality processes?
Edmund Optics is looking for a Quality Technician to strengthen our Quality team in Best. In this hands-on role, you will inspect optical and mechanical components, operate precision measurement equipment, evaluate results, and help ensure that our products meet the required quality standards.
We are looking for someone with a strong technical foundation who enjoys working with equipment and data. Experience with optical components or spectrophotometers is a strong advantage. We will provide training on Edmund Optics-specific equipment and processes.
What will you do?
As a Quality Technician, you will support our existing Quality activities, with a particular focus on technical inspections and measurements. Your responsibilities will include:
- Inspecting optical and mechanical components against technical drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
- Operating inspection and measurement equipment, including a spectrophotometer.
- Independently evaluating measurement results, identifying deviations, and escalating quality issues when necessary.
- Recording inspection findings accurately and maintaining traceable quality records.
- Analysing measurement data and identifying trends using Excel.
- Supporting supplier quality activities, including investigating non-conforming products and communicating technical findings to suppliers.
- Assisting with root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Creating and improving work instructions and inspection procedures.
- Identifying opportunities to improve inspection methods and quality processes.
- Working closely with Quality, Supply Chain, Purchasing, Distribution, and other teams.
- Supporting incoming inspections, returns, and other technical quality activities as required.
What are we looking for?
You are a practical and analytical professional who enjoys understanding how things work. You can work independently, approach problems systematically, and translate technical information into clear conclusions and instructions. You will ideally have:
- An HBO-level qualification or equivalent in a technical field, such as Optics, Applied Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Manufacturing Technology.
- Hands-on experience in a technical, manufacturing, inspection, measurement, or quality environment.
- Experience operating inspection or measurement equipment beyond basic visual inspection or cleaning processes.
- Strong Excel skills, including analysing data, identifying trends, and preparing reports.
- The ability to read and interpret technical drawings and product specifications.
- A process-oriented mindset and the ability to create or improve work instructions.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with a strong eye for detail.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work with colleagues and suppliers.
- Good command of English, both written and spoken.
The following experience would be a strong advantage:
- Experience with spectrophotometers or similar measurement equipment.
- Experience with optics, optical components, glass, or precision manufacturing.
- Experience in pharmaceutical or another regulated manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 and/or ISO 13485.
- Experience with non-conformance investigations and root cause analysis.
- Familiarity with Lean or Six Sigma principles.
- Experience with SAP or another ERP system.
You do not need to know all Edmund Optics equipment and processes from day one. Training will be provided. What matters most is your technical foundation, practical experience, and willingness to learn.
What do we offer?
At Edmund Optics, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the quality of precision optical products in an international working environment. You will join an established Quality team in Best and work closely with colleagues across different departments. The role offers scope to develop your technical knowledge, contribute ideas for process improvement, and expand your expertise in optical inspection and measurement.
- Full-time position: 40 hours per week.
- Fixed-term contract for one year, with the possibility of extension.
- Gross monthly salary: €2,936–€3,548, depending on experience and qualifications, in accordance with CAO Technische Groothandel, Job Group 6.
- 8% holiday allowance.
- Training on Edmund Optics-specific equipment and processes.
